Description
An aquatint etching depicting silhouettes of a nikau palm and flax bush. The title refers to the South Island West Coast river and bluff located in the Kahurangi National Park north of Karamea (the west coast end/beginning of the Heaphy Track_. Kohaihai is renowned for unspoilt nikau forests. The artist (who is also known as a writer on ecological subjects) was involved in the protest movement that saw this area being designated as a conservation park in the late 1970s.
