Panoramic landscape of early Nelson township with goats and cattle in the foreground. The view includes the stand of trees known as 'The Wood' (left) across to Auckland Point (right), Fort Arthur on Church Hill in the lower left area and the estuary foreshore in the mid-ground. The main streets of Nelson are evident and a variety of buildings, including a small distinctively styled church at centre and a water race leading to a building on the right side.
