Description
A history painting on the theme of European colonisation to New Zealand. It is an appropriation of the well known tondo painting, 'The Last of England' 1855 by Ford Madox Brown (collection of the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, England) with the addition of symbolic (stitching and koru motifs), illustrative (axes and tree stumps, landscape forms) and abstract motifs which reference a New Zealand colonial context.
